Is Not Life More?

(Inspired by Matthew 6:25-34)

Do not fret about your life
What to eat, or drink, or wear
Is not life more than these things
Over which you so despair?

Know then, that the Father feeds
Common sparrows of the air
Neither do they sow, nor reap
Storing up to winter, fare

Are you not more valuable
Like a treasure, fine and rare
Than dependent little fowls
Waiting on His faithful care?

And by worry can you add
Say, an hour, to your share?
Is not life more than these things
Over which you so despair?

Consider how the lilies thrive
Without toil, like an heir
Yet Solomon in all his glory
And array, could not compare

But if God so clothes the grass
Here today; tomorrow's flare
Will He not much more clothe you?
Of little faith, O you, He'll spare

Therefore fret not for your life
What to eat, or drink, or wear
Is not life more than these things
Over which you so despair?

For the pagans seek these things
Nothing more, are they aware
But your heav'nly Father knows
What His sons need everywhere

Seek first then His Kingdom, friend
And His righteousness, do bear
Then these things the Lord shall add
According to His loving care

So fret not about tomorrow
It bears its own trouble there
Is not life more than these things
Over which you so despair?
